Last day
Today is my last day of work as a congressional reporter. It’s been a crazy ride.
I now have even more respect for the reporters who work on Capitol Hill for years. There’s a ton of waiting in hallways, scoping out locations, and digging for some kind of response. News isn’t as easy as it seems.
Working in the Capitol press gallery can be a lot of fun. There’s good camaraderie in the little rooms without windows despite working for competing news organizations. Those reporters are truly great and I look forward to following their coverage from afar.
Years ago when I was a teenager I dreamed of this — reporting on Congress, the White House, the government. It’s a huge step for a news nerd, so yeah, it feels a little weird to move on and go another way.
I can say pretty honestly it wasn’t for me. I’m excited I got to step into this strange world for a bit, but I’m excited about my next opportunity working for my alma mater.
So long, Capitol Hill!
