The best tacos ever
We’ve had a busy and yet lazy weekend that ended with these amazing tacos.
We used this recipe for taqueria style tacos – carne asada. We made slight changes. We used pork instead of steak and we didn’t make the salsa. We used fresh tomato instead and the husband’s homemade guacamole.
We spent Friday at an outrageously, hilarious White Elephant Christmas party. Before heading to the party, we stopped on H Street for dinner. We wanted to go to Sticky Rice, but yeah, there was an hour wait. (And rude hostess at that) So we opted for the Argonaut — an old favorite — instead. Great choice. That place rocks.
Saturday night we had dinner with some friends at Das Ethiopian in Georgetown. It was our first Ethiopian experience and thankfully our friends have been to other Ethiopian places in the city.
Sorry it’s such a bad photo. The restaurant, used to be Zed’s, had a great atmosphere but it was pretty dimly lit. Basically, all our dishes came out on one large platter that’s covered with injera, the bread. Then you dip and wrap up the delicious dishes in the bread instead of using forks.
I’m glad everything came out on one platter because we tried everything. And it was all really good. It’s a little like Indian food but with pretty different flavors. We want to try some other places in the city. I’ve heard the best ones are over on U Street. We’re still working our way through the city’s Indian places.
If you go to Das, which is a nice restaurant, make a reservation. Even though the place was pretty empty when we were there, it was rather small. I can imagine it’s easy to find a long wait.
After dinner we stopped by Bourbon Steak for some cocktails. Ever had an aviation cocktail? One of my new favorites. One of my favorite D.C. bloggers, Florida Girl in D.C., talks about Bourbon Steak a lot.
We were just in the lounge so I can’t comment on the food. It had a cool atmosphere and interesting cocktails. I can’t say it is one of my favorite bars in the city, but I might go back, especially if I’m looking for a place to wear a dressy cocktail dress and have a specialty beverage.
Then we came home and had some champagne and watched TV. Lovely night.
